Farmers of Khoksik in Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality–8, Bhojpur, have increasingly started adopting commercial ginger farming as a reliable source of income. With limited earnings from traditional farming systems, local farmers are now shifting toward ginger cultivation as a profitable cash crop.
Ward Chairperson Bachkumar Rai said the ward office and rural municipality have been providing necessary support and encouragement to farmers interested in commercial ginger farming. According to him, eight farmers associated with Gurans Cooperative are currently engaged in commercial ginger production.
The area’s favorable climate and fertile soil have made ginger farming highly productive, attracting more farmers toward the sector. “We have prioritized commercial ginger farming,” said Ward Chairperson Rai. “The local government has been supporting interested farmers by distributing ginger seeds under subsidy programs.”
Local farmer Manoj Rai shared that access to subsidies, agricultural knowledge, training, and technical assistance has made it easier for farmers to engage in ginger cultivation. “Ginger farming is generating better income compared to other crops,” he said. “As returns have improved, we are expanding cultivation areas, which has helped support household expenses.”
Another local farmer, Kamal Rai, stated that ginger farming offers higher profits than traditional crops and is also less vulnerable to damage caused by monkeys, encouraging farmers to expand production further.
Farmer Dev Kumar Rai said both individual and group-based ginger farming practices are growing in the area. He informed that he alone has expanded ginger cultivation to nearly three ropanis of land.
The local government has also planned to focus on ginger processing, storage, and marketing alongside production expansion. Officials believe these initiatives can develop Khoksik into a promising hub for ginger production in Bhojpur.
