Muna Chaudhary of Nimuriya in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City–2 is happy after finding employment at a locally operated agricultural farm. She says that having a job within her own village has spared her from having to travel elsewhere in search of work. According to her, the income has made it easier to manage household expenses as well as her children’s education.

She shared that since joining the farm, she no longer has to remain unemployed during the off-season. “Earlier, during winter, there used to be no work and I had to stay idle at home. But after the agricultural farm started operating, we have been able to find work within the village and earn a steady income,” she said. She currently earns around NRs 14,000 to 15,000 per month.

Similarly, another local resident, Deva Chaudhary, said that securing employment within the village has made it easier to support her family. “There are five members in our family. My husband works in house construction, and I work at the agricultural farm. The income is good, which helps us cover household expenses from my earnings while we are able to save my husband’s income,” she said.

As employment opportunities within the village have increased in recent years, many locals have started becoming involved in agriculture. Hari GC of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City–2, Nimuriya, has been operating a commercial agricultural enterprise and providing jobs to local residents through Suwarna Krishi Farm.

The 37-year-old entrepreneur has not only become self-employed through commercial farming but has also created jobs for 40 local people. The farm, which he started seven years ago, now offers work such as vegetable planting, weeding, and harvesting. As a result, locals no longer have to remain idle as they once did. Even students are now able to continue their college education while earning an income.

Hari GC began vegetable farming on seven kattha of land seven years ago, and the farm has now expanded to 14 bighas. He owns one bigha himself while leasing the remaining land for commercial vegetable cultivation.

With an annual turnover of nearly NRs 20 million, GC spends close to NRs 10 million each year on workers’ wages alone.

Through the farm, he produces seasonal vegetables including tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, and cabbage. To market the produce, he has also opened a vegetable shop in Ghorahi Bazaar.

Speaking about his journey, GC said his interest in vegetable farming from an early age inspired him to pursue commercial agriculture. “Vegetable farming has been generating good income. I have also opened a shop in the market to sell the produce, which has created employment opportunities both at the farm and in the shop,” he said.

Currently, cucumbers are being sold directly from the farm at NRs 17 per kilogram, while tomatoes are sold at NRs 28 per kilogram. The vegetables produced at the farm are supplied not only across Dang district but also to Butwal, Kohalpur, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.
