Rampur, Palpa – Prem Bahadur Singh Thakuri, a farmer from Bhambak in Rampur Municipality–5, has successfully produced and sold 9,000 Arabica coffee saplings this season from his own farm.

Thakuri, who has been cultivating Arabica coffee saplings for the past three years, said that this year’s production has exceeded previous records. Last year, he had sold approximately 6,000 saplings. In the hill districts of Nepal, coffee saplings are typically planted between Falgun and Ashar (mid-February to early July), making this the peak season for sales.

According to Thakuri, the saplings are being sold directly from his farm at a rate of NRs 40 per plant. He mentioned that 2,500 saplings are still available for sale at his nursery.

The saplings cultivated at Thakuri’s nursery are in high demand across nearby districts such as Palpa, Syangja, and Parbat. Coffee saplings generally become ready for plantation after 14 months of growth in the nursery.

In addition to his nursery, Thakuri also operates a small-scale organic tea and coffee business from his home, contributing to the promotion of organic farming and local entrepreneurship in the region.
