Chitawon Milk, the dairy processing plant based in Chitwan’s Thimura, has processed 11.5 million liters of milk over the past year to produce powdered milk. This production was based on milk collected from farmers up to the end of Chaitra (April 13) last year.
According to Durga Prasad Parajuli, Manager of the factory in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1, Thimura, the factory processed 45,000 liters of milk on a daily basis until Falgun ended. However, milk collection has declined with the rise in the temperature.Parajuli informed that the factory was able to collect only. 25,000 liters of milk daily in the month of Chaitra.”With the increase in consumption of curd with rising temperature”, he said, adding, “The milk collection for powder and butter production will further decrease”.
The dairy collects milk from Mechi to Mahakali for powder and butter manufacturing. “Those who deposit their milk with us are the ones who take the powder and butter produced,” he said. “We store it in this cold room for 10 days.”Their powder milk is also supplied to ice cream and biscuit factories
The problem of “milk holidays”—days when milk collection was halted due to oversupply—has come to an end with the revival of the industry that had been closed for three years following the 2015 earthquake.
Kishore Bagale, President of the District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Association, shared that the farmers have benefited from milk processing of milk and production of powder milk and butter.
