A training program on modern beehive construction has been conducted for farmers in Timma, Ward No. 1 of Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality, Bhojpur District.
The initiative aimed to develop local skills and promote commercial beekeeping by equipping 20 farmers with practical knowledge and techniques. During the seven-day training, participants learned modern beehive construction methods, bee management practices, disease and pest control, honey production, and market management.
Timma is considered highly suitable for beekeeping due to its favorable natural environment. The area is surrounded by forests, diverse flowering plants, and clean surroundings, providing abundant forage resources for bees.
Ward Chairperson Nar Bahadur Rai said the training was organized to encourage farmers to explore the significant potential of sustainable beekeeping in the region. He noted that while traditional beekeeping has long been practiced in Timma, integrating modern hive construction and management techniques could substantially increase productivity and income for local farmers.
“Our belief is that modernizing beekeeping practices will help farmers generate better earnings from this sector. Therefore, we organized this training to enhance their skills and knowledge,” Rai said.
He also informed that the local government plans to further promote beekeeping by providing technical support, facilitating access to materials, and improving market opportunities for beekeepers.
Local beekeeper Deependra Raut expressed confidence in constructing modern beehives independently after completing the training. He said the program provided valuable hands-on experience in both beekeeping and modern hive construction.
Agricultural experts emphasize that commercial beekeeping not only boosts honey production but also enhances crop yields through pollination, contributing positively to overall agricultural productivity.
