Rajkishore Mehta of Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality-7 in Sunsari had cultivated potatoes on three bighas. He had spent Rs 600,000 including all expenses. He said that potatoes worth around Rs 1.4 million were produced from that.
Mahato says that he has managed to earn Rs 800,000 from potato farming after three months. He said that he earned Rs 800,000 by selling potatoes worth Rs 1.4 million after deducting all expenses. “There are various problems, such as shortage of labor and food grains. However, we have managed to earn this income after working hard for three months. This is also an example of what can be done in the country,” Mehta said.
Neel Kamal Singh, the head of the Agricultural Knowledge Center in Sunsari, informed that most of the farmers here mainly cultivate potatoes as a winter crop. He stated that potato varieties such as Cardinal, Janak, Kufri Jyoti, Bhutani, Sathiya, and TPS are commonly grown in the region. Overall, the Agricultural Knowledge Center has reported that potatoes are cultivated on an area of 3,000 hectares annually.
