Last fiscal year, Nepal’s tea export in the same period was Rs 1.29 billion totalling to 4,914.3 metric tonnes in quantity.

Nepal exports its tea via the Mechi Custom Office. Exports via the Mechi Custom Office in the first quarter rose by 36% compared to last year during the same period, reported Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS). According to the report, Nepal exported 6,426 metric tonnes of tea from the Mechi office.

The exports value from the Mechi office has increased by over 50%, totaling Rs 1.71 billion, the news states.

Eastern Nepal, where the Mechi Customs is located, is Nepal’s major tea-producing region, which gains significant advantages from the Customs Office’s strategic location. Conveniently located near tea estates and the Indian market, the region has become a tea export centre. According to RSS news, Nepal’s tea exports increased significantly during the first quarter due to decline in India’s tea production.
