Nepal in collaboration with China has announced Visit Nepal Year 2025 to draw more Chinese tourists to the country. Hosting an event last Saturday, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, the Chinese Embassy, Bhaktapur Municipality, and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) announced the campaign.
The event, held during the Chinese New Year, aimed to promote tourism and celebrate the festive occasion, featuring the unveiling of the official Chinese New Year logo.
Nepal’s tourists arrival is slowly gaining momentum since the Covid pandemic which hit the country’s tourism industry negatively.
A total of 1,147,567 tourists visited the country this 2024 — 132,685 more tourists than the last year (an increment by 13.1%) and the highest number of arrivals since the pandemic. This translates into approx 3,000 tourists arriving in the country on a daily basis.
Out of which, 101,879 visitors were from China, which grew by 67% compared to the previous year’s 60,878 visitors. China is the third-largest source market of tourists in the country after the US and India.
Earlier, the Nepal government declared the Nepali decade 2080 B.S. onwards (2023-2032) as the ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ and 2025 as a ‘Nepal Special Tourism Year’ to promote tourism.
The ceremony celebrated Nepal and China’s rich cultures with Newari dances, Chinese lion and dragon performances, and a special tribute by 70 Nepali students playing madal and bansuri to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations and strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
