The park built at Chimkeshwari, the highest point in the district, has become a growing attraction for domestic tourists. Located at an altitude of 2,134 meters above sea level in Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality–5, the newly constructed park has quickly captured the interest of visitors.
According to Ward Chair Santosh Gurung, the park—situated close to the well-known Chimkeshwari Temple—sees a large influx of domestic tourists during holidays and on Saturdays. Gurung said that those who come to offer prayers at the famous Chimkeshwari Mai Temple make sure to spend time exploring the park as well.
The park was built at a total cost of Rs. 2.2 million, with Rs. 2 million provided by the Gandaki Province Government and Rs. 200,000 contributed by local residents. A 20-foot-tall Nepali flag has also been installed at the site. The area’s cool climate attracts even more visitors during the summer. “The weather changes every moment here—sunshine one minute and fog the next,” Gurung remarked.
Visitors often spend time taking photographs and making TikTok videos inside the park. The panoramic views of several Himalayan ranges further enchant tourists. From Chimkeshwari, one can enjoy clear views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Lamjung, Manaslu, and Machhapuchhre, among other peaks.
The Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality has recently renovated the Chimkeshwari Temple, replacing the old structure with a more attractive design featuring a brass roof.
Chimkeshwari Mai, revered as the sister of Gorakh Manakamana, is believed to fulfill the wishes of devotees who come to worship. Of the seven sister goddesses, the eldest—Budhidevi Mai—and the second sister—Chimkeshwari Mai—are located near Chimkeshwari Lake, while the other sisters—Gorakhkalimai, Manakamana Mai, Ichchhakamana Mai, Annapurna Mai, and Akala Mai—can be viewed and worshipped from the same site.
