The Janakpurdham branch office of the Agricultural Inputs Company Limited has sold chemical fertilisers worth NRs 363.96 million in the current fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25), as of now.

As for the carryover stock from the previous fiscal year, the company had 962.5 metric tons of urea, 83.75 metric tons of DAP, and 98.5 metric tons of potash in reserve at the start of the year.

For the current fiscal year, the government has set the selling price per sack at NRs 850.50 for urea, NRs 23,000 for DAP, and NRs 17,000 for potash, according to the acting chief.

The Janakpur branch has been distributing the fertilisers through 209 registered dealers across Dhanusha and Mahottari districts. As per the Fertiliser Directive 2077, each local government has a local fertiliser distribution management committee. The deputy mayor or vice-chairperson of the local level serves as the coordinator, with the administrative officer as a member and the chief of the agriculture section as the member secretary. The committee is responsible for overseeing fertiliser pricing, curbing black market practices, and managing the overall distribution.

According to Sah, local governments distribute fertilisers through the dealers based on the quotas set by the Ministry of Land Management and Cooperatives of Madhesh Province. Sah said the quota for DAP is currently in the process of being increased. The distributed fertilisers are used primarily for paddy, wheat, maize, and oilseed crops.
