Cardamom exports from the Mechi Customs Office have increased by 59.80 percent up to the end of mid-January of the current fiscal year 2082/83.
According to the office’s statistics, cardamom worth NRs 8 billion 612 million 7 thousand was exported during this period.
Information Officer Ishwarkumar Humagain of the Mechi Customs Office said that 4,153.15 metric tons of cardamom were exported in the first ten months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the previous fiscal year 2081/82, cardamom worth NRs 5 billion 388 million 20 thousand had been exported.
According to the office’s data, tea exports declined by 26.70 percent during the ten-month period of the current fiscal year. Tea worth NRs 2 billion 321 million 256 thousand was exported in this period. In the corresponding period of fiscal year 2081/82, tea exports were valued at NRs 3 billion 166 million 213 thousand, Information Officer Humagain said.
The statistics show that among major export items, veneer sheets increased by 91.10 percent, churpi by 63.30 percent, ginger and dried ginger by 101.80 percent, cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage by 36.10 percent, lentils by 316.20 percent, and medicinal herbs by 92.90 percent.
Similarly, exports of plywood declined by 40.90 percent and broom grass (amriso) by 24.90 percent. Up to the end of mid-January of fiscal year 2082/83, goods worth NRs 16 billion 31 million 583 thousand were exported through Mechi Customs.
