A new electric vehicle (EV) charging station has been established in Charang, Upper Mustang, along the Jomsom–Korala highway. The station has been set up by Omda & Jeko Nepal, a private company focused on promoting green mobility.
The charging station was officially inaugurated today by Lopsang Chhomphel Bista, Chairperson of Lo-Ghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality. Speaking at the event, Chairperson Bista said the launch of the station would greatly support the growing use of electric vehicles (EVs) in Upper Mustang and up to the Korala border point. Previously, due to the lack of charging infrastructure beyond Jomsom, travelers had to leave their EVs behind and seek alternative transport.
According to Krishna Pokharel, a technician from Omda & Jeko Nepal, the current station is a basic setup as the area lacks access to a 33 kV transmission line from the Nepal Electricity Authority. However, the station was installed following discussions with local representatives and stakeholders.
Pokharel expressed hope that the charging station would not only promote eco-friendly transportation but also help create local employment opportunities and contribute to environmental sustainability in the region.
