A two-day mango festival is set to be held in Dhanusha. The event titled ‘Chitrapur Mango Festival 2025’ will take place on 28th and 29th June (Ashar 14 and 15) at Chitrapur, located in Bateshwar Rural Municipality–1 and organized by the Chitrapur Mango Agro Tourism Board.
According to Pradeep Mahato, Chairperson of the Chitrapur Mango Agro Tourism Board, the festival aims to promote locally grown mangoes. He further stated that there is a goal to develop Chitrapur as a “Mango Tourism Hub.”
Although the area has been declared a Mango Pocket Zone under the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Program, farmers report that they have not yet been able to fully commercialize their produce. According to festival committee member Phulgen Magahi, this is the second time the mango festival is being organized in the area.
The festival will feature over 40 varieties of mangoes along with mango-based products such as juices and pickles on display.
Chairperson Mahato also mentioned that the festival includes experiences such as offering free mangoes to visitors, guided tours of the mango orchards, hands-on experience picking mangoes directly from the trees, and educational programs for students to learn about different mango varieties.
Currently, mango orchards in the Chitrapur area cover more than 300 bighas of land. According to Saroj Chaudhary, spokesperson for the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of Madhesh Province, the province contributes 77.1% of the country’s total mango production.
