Damauli (Tanahun), 11 Asar: Collective farming of Akabare chili has been started on 100 ropanis of land in Bhanumati Jaupani, Bhimad Municipality–9 of Tanahun district.

According to Iman Thapa, chairperson of the Bhanumati Farmers’ Group, the chili cultivation is being carried out through the “Chief Minister Climate-Friendly Model Farmers’ Group.”

He stated that the chili farming was initiated to increase agricultural production and make the locals of Ward No. 8 self-reliant. A total of 100,000 Akabare chili saplings have been planted on that land. Farmers aim to produce 250,000 kilograms of chili annually and earn an income of NRs 62.5 million per year from this farming.

The chilies produced here are planned to be sold in the markets of Pokhara, Bhimad, and Khairenitar. Currently, the wholesale market price ranges from NPR 300 to NPR 500 per kilogram. Ward No. 9 provided a grant of NPR 100,000 for the production of chili saplings.

Eight localities within the ward—Mohariya, Paimi, Katanchhap, Pathardi, Thamdanda, Sakhep, Jaupani, and Aspagdi Bhadadanda—are being designated as pocket areas for Akabare chili production. Alongside chili, a feasibility study is also being conducted for coffee cultivation to enhance community income in the ward.
