Laxmi Prasad Adhikari of Dhunge, Arun Rural Municipality-7 in Bhojpur, has become an inspiring example of successful agricultural entrepreneurship after returning from foreign employment. After spending nearly six years working in Malaysia, Adhikari returned to Nepal and has been actively engaged in commercial farming for the past five years.

Currently, he has expanded fruit cultivation across 25 ropanis of land and plans to gradually utilize an additional seven ropanis in the coming years. By investing the skills, experience, and savings he gained abroad into agriculture, Adhikari aims to establish farming as a sustainable source of income in his hometown.

His farm includes a variety of perennial fruit crops such as lychee, mango, pomegranate, lemon, avocado, and rudraksha, along with seasonal vegetable cultivation. According to Adhikari, some of the fruit trees have already started producing, and he expects all of them to be in full production within the next year.

“Income has started coming from a few trees already,” he said. “Once all the plants begin producing, I aim to earn between NRs 500,000 and NRs 1 million annually.”

Adhikari shared that years of hardship working abroad motivated him to return home and build a future through agriculture. “Life overseas was difficult. Now, my goal is to achieve something meaningful in my own village,” he said.

Having spent nearly 26 years living on other people’s land, Adhikari is particularly proud to be expanding commercial farming on his own property. His efforts have also encouraged greater interest in agriculture among local residents.

In addition to fruit farming, he is involved in goat rearing. The organic manure produced from his livestock is used to fertilize his crops, helping reduce production costs while maintaining soil fertility.

Believing that agriculture has strong potential to create local employment opportunities, Adhikari plans to further expand his farming activities in the future. He emphasized that improved access to modern technology, technical services, and market management support from the government would significantly enhance farmers’ productivity and income.

“If we receive adequate technical support and better market management, farming can become much more profitable and sustainable for farmers,” he said.
