“Hattidah Forest Stay” has come into operation in the Hattidah area of Lahan Municipality–15 with the aim of promoting tourism. Based on a concept similar to a homestay, the forest stay seeks to offer visitors an immersive experience of the natural environment along with local art and culture.

Previously, the Koiralo Khola Model Forest User Group had been developing the Hattidah wetland area within the community forest as a tourist destination. The forest stay has now been established within the same area.

The facility was constructed with financial support from Jersey Overseas Aid, in collaboration with CARE Nepal, the Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN), and the National Farmers Group Federation under a conservation project.

“We have launched the forest stay with the objective of conserving forests and wetlands while connecting local communities to income-generating opportunities through tourism,” said Rudra Narayan Chaudhary, chairperson of the user group.

According to him, the first phase includes a two-room guest house. Additional facilities at the site include a training hall, picnic area, boating services in the pond, a children’s recreation park, a mini zoo, selfie spots, and other attractions.

Chaudhary expressed confidence that visitors seeking peace and natural beauty will find the location highly enjoyable. The lush greenery, wetland ecosystem, and clean environment are expected to further आकर्षित tourists.

The total cost of construction amounted to NRs 806,088 from the project and NRs 367,295 from the user group.

Inaugurating the facility, Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary announced that the municipality would allocate an additional NRs 2 million to construct two more two-room buildings. “This will help boost tourism development and increase local economic activities,” he said.

Ward Chair Tej Narayan Chaudhary stated that plans are in place to showcase Tharu cultural performances and serve traditional cuisine to guests. “We are working to connect visitors with local culture and flavors,” he added.

Currently, the forest stay offers food and accommodation at a rate of NRs 800 per person. The user group reports that more than 2,000 domestic and international tourists visit the area daily.

Since the wetland began being developed as a tourist destination four years ago, the local community has started to benefit directly. At present, 14 people have gained direct employment, according to the Koiralo Khola Model Forest User Committee.

Located about five kilometers north of Lahan Bazaar in the Chure foothills, the Hattidah area is emerging as an attractive destination for its natural beauty, community forest management, and cultural experiences.
