The Agriculture Knowledge Center, Kanchanpur has selected commercial farmers and provided them with a 50 percent subsidy.
The center has been supporting farmers with production materials, irrigation facilities, capacity building, and marketing. Agriculture Extension Director Hariprasad Paneru informed that the center has been assisting in production and marketing through the program “One Local Level, One Agricultural Product,” aiming to promote commercial agricultural production by utilizing local resources and potential.
According to him, farmers in Krishnapur Municipality have received a 50 percent subsidy from a budget of NRs 4 million. In Krishnapur, farmers selected for vegetable farming from 40 groups and cooperatives have been receiving essential machinery, tools, and agricultural inputs at a 50 percent subsidy.
“The program has led to the expansion of vegetable farming areas and a significant increase in production,” he said. “The center has been continuously providing support ranging from machinery and technology to training and technical consultation to help increase production.” This support has reduced farmers’ labor burden and helped make farming more organized and commercial. Local farmer Prem Bahadur Dagoura stated that the subsidies and technical support from the center have helped increase income at lower cost. “We have received support from seeds to marketing, which has greatly helped us become self-reliant,” he said.
Sunil Chaudhary, Chairperson of Indreni Farmers’ Group in Krishnapur, shared that many people who previously went to India for employment due to financial hardship and inability to pay their children’s school fees have now started earning a decent income through vegetable farming after receiving support from the center.
