‘Nepal in Australia’ program opens applications for Nepali businesses eyeing the Australian market

Nepal in Australia opens doors for Nepali businesses eager to expand internationally, offering capacity-building, export readiness, and market support to help SMEs showcase their products in the Australian market.

The Nepal in Australia program has officially opened applications to support promising Nepali enterprises aiming to expand their reach into the Australian market.

Targeting Nepali businesses with aspirations that go beyond borders, the program invites enterprises ready to showcase their creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation on the Australian stage.

Supported by the Australian Embassy and implemented by the Nepal Economic Forum (NEF), this initiative seeks to strengthen trade ties between Nepal and Australia while empowering Nepali businesses to explore global opportunities.

The program identifies enterprises with strong potential for growth in Australia, emphasizing inclusivity and transparency to ensure participation from diverse sectors, regions, and communities — including women-led and underrepresented businesses.

Program Benefits

Shortlisted enterprises will enter a structured capacity-building and export-readiness program, designed to:

  • Enhance competitiveness in international markets
  • Strengthen export strategies and compliance
  • Redesign products to meet Australian consumer and quality standards

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to legally registered Nepali businesses and SMEs operating in priority sectors, including:

  • Readymade garments
  • Carpets
  • Processed foods
  • Felt products
  • Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) and essential oils
  • Orthodox tea

Applicants must:

  • Be legally registered in Nepal with proven market traction (e.g., customer base, revenue)
  • Be willing to share audited financial statements for at least one year
  • Have founders aged 18 years or above
  • Demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and employment of women, including those from marginalized groups
  • Be currently exporting or ready to export
  • Comply with the DFAT Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) Policy
