Parbat district has generated over Rs 653 million from the trade of agricultural products as it moves steadily toward self-sufficiency in food grains and vegetables. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, this figure was achieved during the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25) through the prioritization and production of six major crops.

Chief of the Centre, Parshuram Adhikari, stated that the farmers across the district earned this amount mainly from the sale of potatoes, paddy, large cardamom, vegetables, maize, and citrus fruits. Among these, potatoes and oranges accounted for the largest share of the district’s agricultural trade. Parbat also produces and sells paddy, seasonal and off-season vegetables, large cardamom, maize, and cucumber seeds.

During the last fiscal year, the district produced 72,950 metric tons of cereal crops, including 33,120 metric tons of maize and 5,220 metric tons of wheat. In addition, 54 metric tons of barley, 100 metric tons of buckwheat, 7,850 metric tons of millet, and 527 metric tons of pulses were produced. Likewise, 362 metric tons of oilseeds, 20,330 metric tons of potatoes, 12,610 metric tons of vegetables, and 4,015 metric tons of oranges were harvested.

Including oranges, the total fruit production in the district reached 13,307 metric tons in the last fiscal year. The district earned Rs 77.3 million from potatoes, Rs 110 million from seeds and vegetables, Rs 248.4 million from oranges, Rs 45 million from honey, and Rs 18.1 million from large cardamom.

To support farmers, the Centre distributed subsidies covering 50 to 90 percent of agricultural costs. In fiscal year 2081/82, over Rs 40 million in subsidies were provided to farmers.

The Centre also distributed 203 mini power tillers, 25 grinding and milling machines, 41 sprayers, and five brush cutters last year. For irrigation, it provided subsidies for the installation of 5,935 meters of pipelines, 700 hill tanks, and the maintenance of 367 meters of canals, according to Chief Adhikari.

Under the Gandaki Province Government, the Agriculture Knowledge Centre has been allocated a budget of Rs 56.4 million for the current fiscal year, while an additional Rs 2.143 million has been allocated under conditional grants from the federal government.
